Michael Silver is a Professor of Optometry and Vision Science and Neuroscience at UC Berkeley. The research goals of his laboratory are to better understand how the human brain constructs representations of the world around us and how these representations are modified by cognitive processes such as attention, expectation, and learning. Since 2020, he has been the Faculty Director of the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP), where his team uses psilocybin in human subjects research to explore the relationships among the mind, brain, and consciousness. This research is part of the BCSP’s Basic Science pillar. The other three pillars of the Center are Journalism, Applied Research and Policy, and Culture and Community.
