Jennifer Firestone, MD
Clinical Research Rater
Dr. Jennifer Firestone received her Doctor of Medicine from University of California, Los Angeles in 1997, then proceeded to a transitional internship at Highland General Hospital, and completed a residency in Family Medicine at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. She spent many years in primary care, helping create a young adult clinic to provide comprehensive care within the setting of a large healthcare organization and then transitioned to acute care, and eventually landed in the field of Addiction Medicine, becoming Board certified in 2011.
Jennifer continues to work in addiction medicine, appreciating the multidisciplinary approach to this deep healing work in which the patient is not just seen as the disease or disorder, but as a complete human who is simply engaging in certain behaviors to cope with the pain of disconnection from Self as a result of societal structures and inherited intergenerational trauma. She has a passion for going beneath the diagnosis and treatment of symptoms to get to the
root of dis-ease.
A longtime student of psycho-spiritual development through the Diamond Approach, she sought further training, completing the year-long Professional Compassionate Inquiry Training with Gabor Mate in 2020. Soon after, she had the gift of learning more about ancestral healing traditions in the Peruvian Amazon and in 2024 completed the Psychedelic Facilitation Certification Program through the Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics. She is honored and humbled to serve as a bridge of sorts between ancestral healing traditions and Western medical practice with an eye on safety, equity, access, and reciprocity.
